This isn't your average tiramisu - it's the kind that makes you close your eyes and sigh with every spoonful.
Nonna's Tiramisu Secrets
Ingredients:
- 6 egg yolks
- ¾ cup white sugar
- 1¼ cups mascarpone (room temperature)
- 1¾ cups heavy cream
- 2 packages ladyfinger cookies
- 1 cup strong espresso (cooled)
- 3 tbsp coffee liqueur
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
The Secret Method
- Whisk egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale (the secret: 10 minutes by hand)
- Add mascarpone gradually - it must be room temperature
- Whip cream to soft peaks separately, fold in gently
- Mix espresso and liqueur
- Quick dip ladyfingers - don't oversoak!
- Layer: cookies, cream, repeat
- Chill overnight minimum (patience is key)
- Dust with cocoa just before serving
